The little bell rings at the Holy Family Catholic Center

The “little bell” rings at the Holy Family Catholic Center.
After the holiday period, and after the forced closure linked to the Covid emergency, the mission in northern Thailand re-opened its doors to welcome children for the new school year.
“The resumption of school activities – Father Alberto Pensa tells us – was scheduled for mid-May but started at the end of June and we too, here at the Center, had to adapt”.
Currently the Asian Country is experiencing one of the most complicated periods since the pandemic exploded. In fact, after the peak reached in mid-May, the subsequent decline, since 11 June the contagion curve is constantly growing; at the moment the data (updated to 5 July) speak of over 290,000 cases (2,199 yesterday alone) and 2,333 deaths, record numbers for the country.

Unfortunately, in addition to the problems related to Covid – continues Father Pensa – we must also face the serious problems of neighboring Myanmar (thirty kilometers from the mission). With the situation that afflicts the country and with the total closure of the borders; even thirty girls who study and attend the cutting and sewing course cannot reach the center. Furthermore, in this situation, we are almost entirely prevented from selling the products created to Bankonthip, which is the lifeblood of our existence. Among other things, in recent years a dozen small tailors have been opened run by former students of the Center, two of which in Myanmar “.

Despite the difficulties, in the previous weeks, the staff of the Center set to work for the reception of the little ones, preparing and putting into practice all the health directives imposed by the pandemic and began planning and activities.
